Easter 2012

When is the Date of Easter 2012?

In 2012, Easter Sunday was April 8th in the Western churches (Catholic, Lutheran, Methodist, Baptist, etc). In the Orthodox Church, Easter fell on April 15th, 2012.

Easter is one of the movable feasts in the Church, which means the date changes each year. Basically, Easter Sunday is the first Sunday after the first full moon on or after the day of the vernal (spring) equinox. Thus, in the Western churches, the date range for Easter Sunday is March 21st-April 25th. The Orthodox Church calculates Easter a little differently than Western Christians, so Eastern and Western Easter are often different dates. We pray everyone has a blessed Easter 2012.
