Prayer For Faithful Departed

Grant, we beseech Thee, O Lord our God,

that the souls of Thy servants and handmaidens,

the memory of whom we keep with special reverence,

and for whom we are bidden and are bound to pray,

and the souls of all our benefactors,

relatives and connections, and all the faithful,

may rest in the bosom of Thy saints;

and hereafter, in the resurrection from the dead,

may please Thee in the land of the living.

Through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

We give You thanks, Almighty God, for these and all your gifts, You Who live and reign forever and ever. May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

O God, the Creator and Redeemer of all the faithful, grant to the souls of Thy servants departed the remission of their sins, that, through pious supplications, they may obtain the pardon which they have always desired. Who livest and reignest with God the Father, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, world without end.
Amen.

O God, Creator of the Universe, we know that seasons and times are in your hands. You give life and take it away. Thank you for giving us such a wonderful person, [name]. Thank you for the lives that you touched through our friend, [name], who is now at home with you. Even though we on earth have lost a great person, heaven has gained one of its own. All glory comes back to you, Father, for it was not our friend's doing that enabled him/her to come to you but your own doing. Lord, grant us peace as we mourn the loss of [name] and always remind us that he/she is with you. In Jesus' name, we pray, Amen.

Gracious Father, thank you for the times and seasons you gave us with our loved one, [name]. He was a great person who devoted his/her life to you. Our beloved died knowing that he/she was coming back to you. Father, we also know and believe that to be absent from the body is to be present with you; that is why we come before you with hopeful hearts knowing that our dearly beloved will see your glory. Thank you, Father, for loving [name] and seeing it fit to take him/her home in this season. In Jesus' name, we pray, Amen.

O Lord, your sorrowing Mother stood by your cross; help us in our sorrows to share your sufferings.

Like the seed buried in the ground, you have produced the harvest of eternal life for us; make us always dead to sin and alive to God.

Shepherd of all, in death you remained hidden from the world; teach us to love our hidden spiritual life with you and the Father.

In your role as the new Adam, you went down among the dead to release all the just there since the beginning; grant that all who are dead in sin may hear your voice and rise to new life.

Son of the living God, you have allowed us through baptism to be buried with you; grant that we may also rise with you in baptism and walk in newness of life. Amen.

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

How we thank You Father, for the many and varied examples of men and women who successfully entered the race of life and completed the course that was laid out for their life, in the power of the Holy Spirit. Thank You for the great cloud of witnesses in the Word of God and throughout the ages who have finished their journey through life, having run the race that was set before them, looking to Jesus the author and finisher of their faith.
May we remain steadfast to the end of our lives and live the way that You would have us to live, knowing that we are fashioned in Your image and likeness and born again as a new creation in Christ. Help us to "keep on keeping on" unto our life's end, no matter what struggles and difficulties may ensue.
When we stumble we ask Lord, that You would be there to pick us up.
When sadness strikes at our hearts, that You would be there to comfort and calm.
When clouds of doubt blacken the perspective of our hearts may the sunshine of Your love break through and reveal Your every smiling face of love.
When through disobedience or disinterest we stray from the path of righteousness, You would lead us through the valley of humility and gently lead us back into the way of truth.
Thank You, Lord, that You have promised to finish the good work that You have started in each of our lives. May we therefore arrive at the finishing post having steadfastly run the race that You set before us. May we all hear Your precious words from Jesus,"well done good and faithful servant," in Whose name we pray,
Amen.
