A Good Night Prayer For The Close of Day

This is a great "good night," or close of day prayer, that is derived from the Episcopalian "Book of Common Prayer." It's a great way to ask protection for everyone during the night.

Traditionally, night prayers were said as a part of Compline, the Church's official night time prayer service. The themes were contrition for sin, a restful sleep, as well as protection upon everyone from the uncertainty of the night.

baby and dad sleeping Keep watch,
O gracious Lord,
with those who are working,
or keeping watch,
or weeping this night,
and give your angels authority
over those who are sleeping.
Tend the sick, Lord Christ;
And give rest to the weary,
Bless the dying,
soothe those who are suffering,
pity the afflicted,
shield the joyous;
All for your love's sake. Amen.
