Information about the Memorare Prayer

The Memorare is a popular prayer addressed to the Blessed Virgin Mary, that asks for her help and intercession. The prayer is attributed to St. Bernard of Clairvaux, but it is likely a traditional and anonymous prayer, the origin of which is unknown. The term memorare comes from the first words of the prayer in Latin

Mary ImmaculateConception Memorare
O most gracious Virgin Mary,
that never was it known
that anyone who fled to thy protection,
implored thy help,
or sought thine intercession,
was leftunaided.

Inspired by this confidence,
I fly unto thee,
O Virgin ofvirgins, my mother;
to thee do I come,
before thee I stand, sinfuland sorrowful.
O Mother of the Word Incarnate,
despise not mypetitions,
but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen
