Prayers for Healing

Christians have always used prayer to aid in recovery from sickness, both mental and physical. Jesus showed compassion by healing diseases, including leprosy, a withered hand, and internal bleeding. Jesus repeatedly emphasized the importance of having faith for healing. While everyone will die someday, and there is no guarantee of physical healing with prayer, Christians understand the value of petitioning God for recovery from illness.

Prayer to Jesus for Healing

O Jesus, I am grateful for your mercy and compassion.
You healed all those who approached you in faith.
In your suffering and death, you redeemed my infirmities and those of the human race.
I join my suffering to yours, and ask for your healing mercy.
Give me the strength and courage to overcome all adversities.
Amen.

Thanksgiving for Healing

Jesus healing a man

Father,
You watch over your children, with your tender and loving care. I thank you this day for your mercy and grace.
I am grateful for your healing power, and for the abundant blessings you have given me.
But most of all, I am thankful for the promise of salvation, given through your Son, our Lord.
Through Him, when all is completed, there will be no more sickness or pain. I pray in His name.
Amen.

Prayer for the Sick

A Prayer for Healing the Sick

Psalm 40:1-4a, Adapted

I waited patiently for the Lord; he inclined to me and heard my cry. He drew me up from the desolate pit, out of the mud and mire. He set my feet upon a rock, and made my steps secure. He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the Lord. Happy are those who make the Lord their trust!

Amen.

Prayer to Saint Peregrine for Cancer Victims

O great Saint Peregrine, you have been called "The Mighty," "The Wonder-Worker," because of the numerous miracles you have obtained from God for those who have had recourse to you. For so many years you bore in your own flesh this cancerous disease that destroys the very fiber of our being, and who had recourse to the source of all grace when the power of man could do no more. You were favored with the vision of Jesus coming down from His Cross to heal your affliction. Ask of God and Our Lady, the cure of the sick whom we entrust to you. (silently recall the names of the sick) Aided in this way by your powerful intercession, we shall sing to God, now and for all eternity, a song of gratitude for His great goodness and mercy.

Amen.

Psalm 103:1-5, Adapted

Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name.

Bless the Lord, O my soul, and do not forget all his benefits. He forgives all your iniquity, and heals all your diseases; He redeems your life from the Pit, and crowns you with steadfast love and mercy. He satisfies you with good, as long as you live, so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's.

Suffering Servant Prayer

Lord Jesus, Surely you have borne our infirmities and carried our diseases. You were stricken and afflicted. You were wounded for our transgressions, Yet, your punishment made us whole, and by your bruises we are healed. May we share in your sufferings, and through them, become more like you. Amen Adapted from Isaiah 53:4-6

Prayer for Recovery from Sickness

O God, the strength of the weak and the comfort of sufferers: Mercifully accept our prayers, and grant to your servant (name), the help of your power, that his (her) sickness may be turned into health, and our sorrow into joy; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Book of Common Prayer, 1979

Another Prayer for Recovery from Illness

O God of heavenly powers, by the might of your command you drive away from our bodies all sickness and all infirmity: Be present in your goodness with your servant (name), that his (her) weakness may be banished and his (her) strength restored; and that, his (her) health being renewed, he (she) may bless your holy Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.
