The Church has traditionally understood the importance of recovery from sickness or other issues using healing prayers. Jesus showed compassion to people by healing their diseases, including leprosy, a withered hand, and hemorrhaging. Jesus always emphasized the importance of faith for healing. While everyone must someday die, and there is no guarantee of physical healing with prayer, Christians understand the value of petitioning God for recovery from illness. Either way, we ask God to always heal our souls, to be ready for our deaths.
Prayer to Jesus For Healing
O Jesus,
I am grateful for
your mercy and compassion.
You healed all those,
that approached you in faith.
In your suffering and death,
you redeemed my infirmities
and those of the human race.
I join my suffering to yours,
and ask for your healing mercy.
Give me the strength and courage
to overcome all adversities. Amen.

Thanksgiving For Healing

Father,
You watch over your children,
with your tender and loving care.
I thank you this day
for your mercy and grace.
I am grateful for your healing power,
and for the abundant blessings
you have given me.
But most of all,
I am thankful for
the promise of salvation,
given through your Son, our Lord.
Through him, when all is completed,
there will be no more sickness or pain.
I pray in his name. Amen.

Psalm 40:1-4a, Adapted
I waited patiently for the Lord;
he inclined to me and heard my cry.
He drew me up from the desolate pit,
out of the mud and mire.
He set my feet upon a rock,
and made my steps secure.
He put a new song in my mouth,
a song of praise to our God.
Many will see and fear,
and put their trust in the Lord.
Happy are those who make the Lord their trust! Amen

Prayer For A Sick Child
Heavenly Father,
watch with us over your child (name),
and grant that he (she) may be restored
to that perfect health
which it is yours alone to give;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Another Prayer For A Sick Child
Lord Jesus Christ,
Good Shepherd of the sheep,
you gather the lambs in your arms
and carry them in your bosom:
We commend to your loving care this child.
Relieve his (her) pain,
guard him (her) from all danger,
restore to him (her) your gifts of
gladness and strength,
and raise him (her) up
to a life of service to you.
Hear us, we pray, for you dear Name's sake. Amen.

Prayer to St. Peregrine For Cancer Victims
O great St. Peregrine,
you have been called "The Mighty,"
"The Wonder-Worker,"
because of the numerous miracles
which you have obtained from God
for those who have had recourse to you.
For so many years you bore in your own flesh
this cancerous disease
that destroys the very fiber of our being,
and who had recourse to the source of all grace
when the power of man could do no more.
You were favored with the vision
of Jesus coming down from His Cross
to heal your affliction.
Ask of God and Our Lady,
the cure of the sick whom we entrust to you.
(silently recall the names of the sick)
Aided in this way by your powerful intercession,
we shall sing to God, now and for all eternity,
a song of gratitude for His great goodness and mercy. Amen.
Healing Novena
A Healing Novena To Christ the Great Physician
Psalm 103:1-5, Adapted
Bless the Lord, O my soul,
and all that is within me,
bless his holy name.
Bless the Lord, O my soul,
and do not forget all his benefits.
He forgives all your iniquity,
and heals all your diseases;
He redeems your life from the Pit,
and crowns you with steadfast love and mercy.
He satisfies you with good,
as long as you live,
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's.
Adapted from the NRSV
Suffering Servant Prayer
Lord Jesus,
Surely you have borne our infirmities
and carried our diseases.
You were stricken and afflicted.
You were wounded for our transgressions,
Yet, your punishment made us whole,
and by your bruises we are healed.
May we share in your sufferings,
and through them, become more like you. Amen
Adapted from Isaiah 53:4-6
Prayer For The Sick
Heavenly Father,
giver of life and health:
Comfort and relieve your sick servants,
and give your power of healing
to those who minister to their needs,
that those for whom our prayers are offered
may be strengthened in their weakness
and have confidence in you loving care;
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Prayer For Recovery From Sickness
O God,
the strength of the weak
and the comfort of sufferers:
Mercifully accept our prayers,
and grant to your servant (name),
the help of your power,
that his (her) sickness

and our sorrow into joy;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Another Prayer For Recovery From Illness
O God of heavenly powers,
by the might of your command
you drive away from our bodies
all sickness and all infirmity:
Be present in your goodness
with your servant (name),
that his (her) weakness
may be banished
and his (her) strength restored;
and that, his (her) health being renewed,
he (she) may bless your holy Name;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
